Tips to Help Manage Your Household

cottage
I have always enjoyed sharing tips to make life easier in your home.

Hope these help make an improved difference in your life...

My favorite tip has always been.... place a cup of water - along with about 2 T. lemon juice - in a glass cup and microwave for atleast 5 minutes.  Keep the door shut - the steam will moisten the splatters, and you should be able to easily wipe  it clean.   Your microwave will smell lemony fresh.

When using your hand mixer - place your bowl in the sink to mix.  The splatters in the sink are much easier to clean than to have them all over
your cupboard and counter.

Wear socks when cleaning, and if you see a cobweb down low, you can wipe it off with your foot - saves your back. (When cleaning my home, I always run the vacuum last.)

Use a swiffer duster - you're able to reach places you can't with a dustcloth, and it's actually fun!  My grandchildren LOVE to dust at my house...(Kinda like Tom Sawyer coaxing Huck Finn to paint the fence eh?)

Be sure to wash your hands - often and frequently!  This is the most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of bacteria in your home.  Teach your grand/children to sing "Happy Birthday" while they wash their hands...when the song is done, their hands will be clean 'enough'.

When I want to thaw meat from the freezer for use the next day, I wrap it in several layers of newspaper and let it sit on the counter overnight. In the morning, the meat will be (mostly) thawed and still chilled.  Refrigerate until ready to prepare.

To check eggs for freshness, place them in a 2-cup measuring cup full of water. If they stay at the bottom, they are fresh...if they rise to the top, throw them out.  If they stand up in the water, they should be used soon.

Resolve to be a Do It Yourself-er!  You'll save buku bucks by grating your own cheese & chopping your own veggies.  Those prepackaged foods can be real timesavers - at times - but make a habit of preparing foods yourself and you'll save a lot of $$.

It's worth your time.
